Composition Workshop

Pupils will learn how to craft a musical theme using both major and minor scales to accompany a superhero video and a supervillain video.

Pupils will learn how these different scales create different moods to meet the composition brief and will interact with notation.

Working in small groups, pupils will use instruments to create and collaborate before sharing their themes with the class and seeing them accompany the videos.

All pupils will receive Mini Musicians composer certificates rewarding their new knowledge, teamwork and creativity.

This workshop typically lasts 90 minutes and is perfect for KS2. A percussion story version is available for KS1.

Music Production
Technology

Pupils will use industry standard recording technology, microphones and instruments to capture multiple layers of themselves playing 'parts' to create a popular song.

Pupils will learn how to build beats, record a melody, record harmonies, experiment with and combine timbres and sing or rap lyrics.

This workshop can also come after our composition workshop so pupils can record their compositions straight onto the visual media, completing the journey from pen to production!

All pupils will receive Mini Musicians Music Producers certificates rewarding their new knowledge, teamwork and creativity.

This workshop is for KS2 and typically lasts 90 minutes

Blues Improvisation Workshop

Pupil's will learn about the origins of The Blues and the theory behind its unique sound. They will also discover the timbres and titans of the style through an exciting demonstration and from visual media.

Pupils will then have time on keyboards to explore the Blues scale with instruction on its tension (blue) notes and notes of rest & resolution. Each pupil will then perform a solo to a Blues backing band using their new knowledge and inspiration.

All pupils will receive a Mini Musicians Blues Improvisation certificate to reward their new knowledge and creativity.

This workshop is for KS2 and typically lasts 1 hour.

Topic-Tag Workshops

A workshop to enlighten pupils on music from a specific period in history to tag onto your topics.

With your pupils' musical participation, we journey through history to see and hear the instruments of the past, discover the social contexts of music-making, perform and compose in the style and uncover fascinating facts about the music from long, or not so long, ago!

World Music Workshops

A workshop to enlighten pupils on the music of a specific place in the world, helping to promote their growth into global citizens.

Pupil's will learn about the instruments, ensembles, social purpose and history of the music as well as hear and watch original recordings. Workshops also include performance and composition tasks with relevant instruments supplied one-per-pair.

We also hold a vast collection of authentic instruments from around the world for pupils to see, hold and hear, bringing music from thousands of miles away to vivid life within the classroom.

Ukulele 'Play Today' 
Workshop

A workshop teaching pupils fretting, strumming and plucking techniques to then play together as an ensemble whilst reading notation.

Pupils will also learn about the origins and history of the ukulele, culminating in a fun quiz!

 

All pupils will receive a Mini Musicians Ukulele 'Play Today' certificate to reward their new knowledge and inspire musical progression.

Workshop typically last for 1 hour and is adapted to suit all year groups.

Tongue Drum 'Play Today' 
Workshop

A workshop teaching pupils mallet grip, roll and tap techniques to then play together as an ensemble whilst reading notation

Pupils will also learn about the Indonesian Gamelan and its similar, and not so similar, instruments, culminating in a fun quiz!

All pupils will receive a Mini Musicians Tongue Drum 'Play Today' certificate to reward their new knowledge and inspire musical progression.

Workshop typically last for 1 hour and is adapted to suit all year groups.
